Weekly Update from Fr. van Dooren 7.3.26

Dear members and friends of our parish family,

Blessings to you on this weekend of July 4th and The Sixth Sunday after Pentecost.  We lift up all who are traveling, and we pray for our city and country at this deeply meaningful time. Please take a moment to pray this collect for our country on this 250th anniversary taken from the Book of Common Prayer (p. 190):

Lord God Almighty, in whose Name the founders of this country won liberty for themselves and for us, and lit the torch of freedom for nations then unborn: Grant, we beseech thee, that we and all the people of this land may have grace to maintain these liberties in righteousness and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

I am honored to be the preacher this weekend using the Gospel passage as the sermon text (Matthew 11:16-19,25-30).  In the passage, we hear the familiar and comforting words of our Lord, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”  How we need these words in our lives today!

Do you love to sing? Do you miss singing with a choir? Are you looking to improve your voice and/or your sight reading skills? If your answer to any of these questions is yes, then think about joining the summer choir here at Transfiguration! We sing most Sundays through mid-September at the 11am service. We rehearse prior to that in the church from 9:30 to 11:00am. For some special feast day services, we have a Saturday morning rehearsal. Please contact Claudia Dumschat (cdumschat@littlechurch.org) for more information.

The Holy Rosary will be prayed in the Family chapel at 9:30am this Sunday.  We will pray the Joyful mysteries.

We continue to live-stream each Sunday’s mass at 11:00am, and a link is sent out each Sunday morning at 8:00am.  We live-stream on Facebook and YouTube. Please email the parish office (parishoffice@litlechurch.org) if you would like to pray the morning and evening offices with us by Zoom.

Thank you for your continued faith, support, and love for the parish.

With loving wishes,
Fr. van Dooren
