Weekly Update from Fr. van Dooren 6.5.26

Dear members and friends of our parish family,

I begin this week’s update with deepest gratitude for the life and memory of our dear parishioner, Patrick Carr, who died this past Sunday. Patrick and his wife, Kate, were married during our 11:00am mass some years ago, and have been beloved members of the parish.  May his rest be this day in peace, and his dwelling place in the Paradise of God. We will let everyone know of the funeral arrangements once they have been finalized.

We hope you'll join us tonight at 7:30pm for our annual spring concert "Mostly Mendelssohn". Click here for a sneak peek of tonight's music, which will include Mendelssohn's: Hear My Prayer, I Waited for the Lord, and Concerto for Violin, Piano and Strings in D Minor. Our concert will also feature a celebration of America’s 250th Anniversary featuring chorister Hendrix Chan’s I Was Glad and patriotic music by William Billings and Nancy Wersch, performed by The Choir of Men and Boys & Girls, Matei Varga, piano, Kinga Augustyn, violin, The Transfiguration Chamber Ensemble, Claudia Dumschat, conductor.
Come support our our young singers in what promises to be a terrific evening! Tickets can be bought at the door, but if you prefer to pay with your card, you can click here to purchase tickets.

This Sunday we will celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi, the feast of the Most Holy Body of Christ!  Behind this feast is one of the most touching and deeply moving stories of faith, the life and vision of St. Juilana of Liége.  In the sermon, I will highlight St. Juliana’s life and faith as we celebrate the gift and miracle of the Holy Eucharist.  This is the last great feast before entering what is often called the “Green Season,” or “Ordinary Time,” covering the calm summer months of the Church Year.

This Sunday will also be a special day for two faithful members, Ayana Lowe and Trish O’Donnell who are getting married at the 11:00am mass! And they will host a reception for the whole congregation following the mass.  Please make every effort to attend mass and support these two people in their life together.

EAG's Grand Bazaar returns on Friday, June 12 from 2-7 pm and Saturday, June 13 from 11am-6pm at The Church of the Transfiguration! Find upscale/designer/vintage clothing; theatre costumes, books, and memorabilia; art books; fine and costume jewelry; unique decorative items; quality household items including serving pieces, glassware, silver, porcelain, and ceramics; and one-of-a-kind items of interest. All proceeds support the charitable work of The Episcopal Actors’ Guild (helping NYC performers in times of need). Join us rain or shine! Click here for more information.

On Sunday, June 14 at 1:00 PM in the Holy Family Chapel, Donn Mitchell will speak about his new book, Eleanor Roosevelt's Nightly Prayer: The Religious Life of the First Lady of the World. Copies of the book will be available for sale at a discount and the author will sign them. Please RSVP to Grace (parishoffice@littlechurch.org) so that Donn will know how many copies to bring.

We celebrate Pride Sunday on Sunday, June 28, and Fr. Cheng will be our celebrant and preacher.  After the 11 am mass, there will be a small pizza reception at 1:30pm for those who will march at 4 pm and for those who want to support and cheer. This year, we are planning to march as a campus with members of the Episcopal Actors’ Guild and Houghton Hall Arts Community.  All are welcome to participate, but we are asking marchers to sign up in advance here to comply with the city's guidelines.

The Holy Rosary will be prayed in the Family chapel at 9:30am this Sunday.  We will pray the Luminous mysteries.

We continue to live-stream each Sunday’s mass at 11:00am, and a link is sent out each Sunday morning at 8:00am.  We live-stream on Facebook and YouTube. Please email the parish office if you would like to pray the morning and evening offices with us by Zoom.

Thank you for your continued faith, support, and love for the parish.

Fides Opera

With loving wishes,
Fr. van Dooren
