Weekly Update from Fr. van Dooren 4.2.26

Dear members and friends of our parish family,

I’m writing a day early as we begin the sacred three days, the Holy Triduum.  And I want to wish you a most loving and sincere conclusion of Lent and Holy Week as we prepare for the Paschal Feast!  How dear the disciplines, devotions, and acts of love that we, as a parish family, committed to these past forty days.  May the Holy Spirit take them and bless them in our hearts to form and deepen our love of God in the person of our risen savior, Jesus Christ!

Today is Maundy Thursday, and we will offer a said mass at 12:10 and a Solemn mass at 6:30pm to commemorate the Institution of the Holy Eucharist at the Last Supper.

Click here to read last week’s update where I gave more detailed explanations of the sacred three days of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday (12 pm Liturgy on April 3), and the Great Vigil of Easter (7 pm on Saturday, April 4).

Easter Day’s masses are celebrated at 8:30am and 11:00am, continuing the joy of the previous Vigil mass. Either the Easter Vigil mass or the Easter Day mass can be choices for our sacred Easter obligation.

We will host a “Fishes and Loaves” coffee hour after the 11:00am mass this Easter Day. For those who are able, please contribute a small ready-to-serve finger food plate prior to the mass. Just drop it off in the Common Room prior to the mass. Weather permitting, we will enjoy an Easter egg hunt following the mass. Thank you, dear choir parents, for hosting!

We welcome Dr. Joshua Heath as our preacher for the liturgies of the Triduum.  Dr. Heath teaches Theology and Russian Culture at the University of Cambridge, where he is a Fellow of Trinity College.  His presence with us at this holy time of year has become a blessed tradition.

Our Midday Music Concert series will resume in just a few weeks! Our "One West / One East” series is a collaboration with Marble Collegiate Church. This spring, the theme is "The French Connection".  At the first concert on Wednesday, April 15 at 1 pm, Eddie Zheng will be performing a Concert of French Organ Music at Marble Collegiate Church. Suggested Donation is $10 per concert. For the full schedule, click here.

We invite you to join us for a special vocal recital featuring Dominick Matsko, baritone with Claudia Dumschat, piano and guest artists: b.j. Karpen, oboe and Allen Maracle, cello, performing Music of Bach, Schubert, Brahms, Ravel, Pasatieri, and Mahler. General admission tickets are $25/15 for students and seniors. Get tickets for this concert on Friday, April 17 at 7 pm in advance here

The Holy Rosary will be prayed in the Family chapel at 9:30am this Easter Day.  We will pray the Glorious mysteries.

We continue to live-stream Easter Day’s mass at 11:00am, and a link is sent out on Sunday morning at 8:00am.  We live-stream on Facebook and YouTube. Please contact the parish office (parishoffice@littlechurch.org) if you would like to pray the morning and evening offices with us by Zoom.

Thank you for your continued faith, support, and love for the parish.

With loving wishes,
Fr. van Dooren
