Weekly Update from Fr. van Dooren 4.17.26
Dear members and friends of our parish family,
We invite you to join us for a special vocal recital tonight at 7:00pm featuring Dominick Matsko, baritone with Claudia Dumschat, piano and guest artists: b.j. Karpen, oboe and Allen Maracle, cello, performing music of Bach, Schubert, Brahms, Ravel, Pasatieri, and Mahler. General admission tickets are $25/15 for students and seniors. Get tickets in advance here.
This upcoming third Sunday of Easter promises dear and deep blessings as we hear the beloved Resurrection story of the two disciples On the Road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35). I am honored to give the homily, and I join countless preachers throughout the centuries who have enjoyed the beautiful connection of this story with the Holy Eucharist. May this story also guide us as we navigate the trauma of a world beset by war, uncertainty, and fear. Please come.
Our monthly Spanish mass is offered this Sunday at 5:00pm in the Family Chapel. All are welcomed, including those of us whose Spanish isn’t perfect…smile.
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Sarah Mullally, has issued a statement, standing in solidarity with Pope Leo XIV in his calls for peace. Click here to read.
As some of you may know, Walter Bauer, one of our dear and cherished members of the parish, died suddenly in early February. Walter was an ardent supporter of our music ministry, and he was one of our best dressed members! When complimented about his attire, he would often say, “nothing is too good for God!” Walter’s funeral mass will be celebrated this upcoming Tuesday, April 21st, at 1:00pm. “May his rest be this day in peace, and his dwelling place in the Paradise of God.”
Our "One West / One East” Midday Concert series is a collaboration with Marble Collegiate Church. This spring, the theme is "The French Connection". At this week’s concert on Wednesday, April 22 at 1 pm, Bernadette Hoke, piano and Laura Boutranger, cello will be performing the Louis Vierne Cello Sonata here at the Little Church. Suggested Donation is $10 per concert. For the full schedule, please click here.
We are so looking forward to our Annual Choir Benefit "A Night in Bloom" on Friday, May 1 at 6:30 pm. Join us for a celebratory evening of music, entertainment, and philanthropy. Proceeds of our cocktail party with performances and live auction will benefit the Transfiguration Choir. This annual benefit is one of the most important and enjoyable celebrations of the parish.
The benefit will support, in part, this year’s choir trip, over Juneteenth weekend, to sing in the Sunday service at St. Paul's Church in Alexandria, VA. During this trip, they will also have the opportunity to tour Washington, D.C.
If you are interested in attending the benefit or supporting our choirs, please click here. If you are planning on attending, please make sure to purchase tickets by Friday, April 24.
The Holy Rosary will be prayed in the Family chapel at 9:30am this Easter Day. We will pray the Glorious mysteries throughout the fifty days of Easter.
We continue to live-stream each Sunday’s mass at 11:00am, and a link is sent out each Sunday morning at 8:00am. We live-stream on Facebook and YouTube. Please email the parish office (parishoffice@littlechurch.org) if you would like to pray the morning and evening offices with us by Zoom.
Thank you for your continued faith, support, and love for the parish.

With loving wishes,
Fr. van Dooren
