Weekly Update from Fr. van Dooren 7.24.26

Dear brothers and sisters of our Little Church family,

For the month of July, we have enjoyed many parables from the Gospel of Matthew, and this Sunday we have five of them! Some are very short, and they all tell a story (Matthew 13:31-33, 44-52). These stories are coupled with the ancient story of King Solomon in the Old Testament lesson when, as a very young King, Solomon prays for wisdom. (I Kings 3:5-12).

There is a beautiful connection between the story of King Solomon and the parables of Matthew’s Gospel, and I hope to touch on this connection with the promise that it won’t add up to six sermons!….smile. 

Then please mark your calendars for next Sunday, August 2nd, when we will celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration, our feast of title! The “fixed date” is actually August 6th, but we always anticipate or transfer the feast in order to celebrate it on a Sunday.

We were the first church in the Anglican world to adopt the title of the Church of the Transfiguration, and I always include the explanation in the day’s sermon.

On our feast of title, we always enjoy a special reception following the 11:00am mass.  The church provides the majority of the main course, but donations of salads and desserts for the reception after the 11 am mass are greatly appreciated. Volunteers to help clean up are also needed. Please email the parish office (parishoffice@littlechurch.org) if you are able to volunteer, contribute, or have any suggestions! 

Do you love to sing? Do you miss singing with a choir? Are you looking to improve your voice and/or your sight reading skills? If your answer to any of these questions is yes, then think about joining the summer choir here at Transfiguration Church! We sing most Sundays through mid-September at the 11am service. We rehearse prior to that in the church from 9:30 to 11:00am. For some special feast day services, we have a Saturday morning rehearsal. Join us when you can! The Holy Rosary will be prayed in the Family chapel at 9:30am this Sunday.  We will pray the Joyful mysteries.      

We continue to live-stream each Sunday’s mass at 11:00am, and a link is sent out each Sunday morning at 8:00am.  We live-stream on Facebook and YouTube. Please email the parish office if you would like to pray the morning and evening offices with us by Zoom.
